Acroplois

The Acropolis (meaning ‘the highest point of the city’) is an ancient citadel in Athens. It consists of the remains of several ancient buildings of great architectural and historic significance, central to which is the Parthenon Temple of 5th century BC. It was built and destroyed few times over the course of last millennia but its emblematic identity of ornate Doric columns has remained an eternal constant. Also of note here are the Temple of Athena and an ancient sanctuary called the Erechtheion that has six maidens carved in its ornate pillars.

Parthenon

The Parthenon is a former temple and the star attraction of the Acropolis in Athens. Built during 447BC to 438 BC, it is dedicated to the city’s patron goddess Athena. It is the most glorious part of Classical Greece and is epitomized with a stunning mastery over Doric sculptures. Of special note is Parthenon’s east pediment that narrates the birth of Goddess Athena after her father, Zeus’ head was split open by Hephaestus, the god of fire and the forge.
