Austin is the capital of the U.S. state of Texas. Nicknamed ‘the Live Music Capital of the World’ for its numerous live music venues, this second largest state capital in the US is an important center of administration, politics, and technology. Austin is home to University of Texas and is resplendent with a host of cultural attractions (like public art and live concerts) and museums, a combination that not too many college towns in the world can boast of.

The State Capitol in Downtown Austin hosts offices and chambers of the Texas Legislature and the Governor. Constructed in Italian Renaissance Revival style in 1888, this 308 feet tall administrative skyscraper lords over all other buildings in the city. It has nearly four hundred rooms, and they are centrally hallmarked with a central rotunda with portraits of previous presidents of the Republic of Texas or governor of the State of Texas, plus a historic painting depicting the key moments of the Texas Revolution. Visitors may also see the House of Representatives and Senate Chamber galleries on the third floor here.

The Lady Bird Johnson Wildflower Center is a public botanical garden that was co-founded by the former First Lady, Lady Bird Johnson in 1982 to protect and preserve North America's native plants. This beautiful garden today is home to nearly 700 native species. The center has walking trails, plus numerous research plantings, educational exhibits and an annual sale of native plants. A downward hanging giant dragonfly sculpture is among the first of many spooky outdoor sculptures here.
