This awe-inspiring structure was constructed in between 1882-1912 in the memory of nearly 200,000 Russian soldiers who lost their lives while fighting for Bulgaria's independence (Russo-Turkish war - 1877-78). The church's architecture has been designed by Alexander Pomerantsev (Russian architect) in the Neo-Byzantine style.
Boyana ChurchBoyana Church is a 13th century structure and is listed under UNESCO's World Heritage Sites. The structure and its almost 90 murals are amongst the renowned examples of medieval artwork of Bulgaria. On the walls of the church are displayed near about 89 scenes and 240 human images. At a distance of nearly 2 kilometers is located the National Museum of History. Entry to both - the Church and the Museum is covered in a combined ticket.
